For our final term in Year 3 we will be exploring an exciting range of topics across the curriculum. In Maths, we’ll be learning about statistics and shape, including how to read and interpret data as well as naming and describing 2D and 3D shapes. In English, we will be diving into narrative writing, creating our own stories with interesting characters, settings and plot ideas. Our History learning will take us back in time to the Tudors, discovering who they were, how they lived and why they are still remembered today. Linking to this, in DT we will be looking at Tudor cooking, exploring ingredients from the period and designing a simple Tudor‑inspired dish. In RE, we will be thinking about the big question “What is religion?”, exploring how different religions help people find meaning and belonging. Finally, in PSHE we will be following the Jigsaw unit Changing Me, learning about growing up, feelings, friendships and how our bodies and emotions change as we get older.

Going Above and Beyond at Home
If your child would like to keep practising at home this half term, there are a few simple things that can really support their learning. In English, they can work on using adverbs for time to make their writing clearer and more detailed. Adverbs of time tell us when something happens and help children organise events in order. These are words like first, next, later, suddenly or finally, and children can try adding them to simple sentences at home, for example: “First, the boy opened the door,” or “The dog barked suddenly.” In Maths, they can keep building confidence with the column method for addition, subtraction and multiplication. Regular reading on Oxford Reading Buddy will really support their progress, and practising times tables on Times Table Rock Stars is always helpful for quick recall and fluency. All of these small steps add up and help children feel confident and ready for learning in class.
