School Games Mark Press Release
Competition Intent
Competitive fixtures and leagues should feature your strongest team and regular school club attendees, some of these fixtures may lead to county wide events or competitions.
Friendly tournaments should feature, as much as possible, those children that take part in clubs at school but have not been chosen for the competitions in that sport or may struggle to access opportunities outside school. Where there are only ‘friendly’ fixtures for a particular sport, please rotate the children you bring to each fixture as much as possible. We will not be collecting scores for these events.
We Can Play and inclusive events are aimed at those pupils who face barriers to participation in physical activity for any number of reasons (such as SEND, gender, low social economic groups, ethnicity or low self-confidence). They will have not, or very rarely, attended clubs (in or outside of school) or represented their schools before and the aim is to inspire and encourage these children to become more active. The events will include a range of skills, activities and small sided games related to a specific sport with a focus on fun and positive experiences.
For ‘friendly’ and ‘we can play’ events, we recommend that all squad members take part in every game and they are rotated so all participants have equal playing time.

Fencing with Year 6.
'On Wednesday 10th February, a very excited Year 6 cohort had the amazing opportunity to take part in an afternoon of Fencing provided by Nat Lewis, who has not only represented his country but is also one of the British National development coaches. He also supports with and coaches at a local level with Taunton Deane Blades Fencing Club.
The children were given a whistle stop tour of many of the fundamental movements and skills linked to this sport along with the chance to 'sparr' with their partner.
Nat's club (Taunton Deane Blades Fencing) has a beginner's course starting on Wednesday 22nd February, this will run for six weeks. This course will cover a variety of skills, including footwork, bladework, and tactics, and will to then look to integrate with the rest of the club with sparring towards the end of the course.
If anyone is interested, they should email Louise (tauntondeaneblades@gmail.com) who can give further information'.
