Family Learning

This page will give you an overview of the Family Learning Opportunities we offer at West Monkton! 

We are proud to be the leading school with the Oak Partnership for Family Learning and the only schools within Taunton to offer this opportunity with Somerset Skills and Learning.

We are pleased to be able to run our Family Learning Project for another year thanks to funding from SS&L. 

We have already held sessions on KS2 maths, Year 1 stay and play, OPAL session, Power of play workshop, a forest school session, clay workshop and value of volunteering course. These sessions are focussed on adult learning in order for families to understand more about school life and how to best support their children. The children all love having their adults in school and feedback has been very positive. Please do sign up and join in where you can!

Previous Family Learning

Over the last 10 years West Monkton has provider adult learning opportunities for over 1000 adult learners and worked with SS&L to maintain FREE and inclusive workshops and courses for all.  The courses and workshops have been in person and online, embracing new technology and personal experience. 

We have run

• Bread making workshops with 'The truth about food' talks
• Let's Cook sessions.
• Baby and Parent music and sensory sessions.
• Forest School Courses.
• Welcome to phonics workshops
• Mastery maths workshops
• Literacy Boost Course for Year 1 families
• First Aid courses with certificate of attendance
• Literacy Boost course for Year 2 parents and carers. 

We have worked with SS&L to offer digital skills sessions, puppet making workshops and hope to continue to develop these wider opportunities. 

We have also run workshops in Ruishton Primary and hope to do many more and we have also supporting Blackbrook Primary in running their first Family Learning sessions. 

We are also very proud of our Family Learning opportunities throughout the global pandemic, moving to online sessions with resources often delivered to families doors.
