School values and The Church Calendar
Our Christian values
We believe values help define our character and ethos and by doing so affect our behaviour, beliefs and actions. They are our guide for living a life that will help all flourish.
At West Monkton our Christian Values are represented by nine words with a clear Biblical underpinning that give purpose, direction and a firm grounding in all we seek to do. These are present among our school community.
Galatians 5 V22 : ………….the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
To represent our Christian Values, children from Years 1-6 were previously involved in creating a permanent artwork display in our school hall. This we enjoy as a regular reminder of our values which underpin everything we do. Children have become fluent in our Christian values and enjoy the chance to share, reflect and encompass them into their lives.
Our Christian values underpin our curriculum and come from Galatians Fruits of the Spirit:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 5:22

British Values
At West Monkton, we actively promote British values through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum, and teaching. As such, we promote tolerance of, and respect for, people of all faiths (or those with no faith), cultures, and lifestyles.
We prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain by supporting them through our words, actions, and influence, not just within school, but also within the wider community.
Promoting British Values alongside our core Christian values
The government defines British values as:
- Democracy
- Rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faith
At West Monkton, we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world. Underpinning this is our rich inclusive curriculum, where we have created strong links to the British Empire. We actively challenge children, staff, and parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including ‘extremist’ views.
As part of The Oak Partnership, we passionately believe that by working together, the children are able to have a higher quality of education, and that as colleagues, we will also benefit from and reap the rewards of a values-based organisation where no one is left behind.
